St. Ambrose was born to a Roman Christian family in A.D. 340. Legend has it that when Ambrose was a baby, a swarm of bees settled on his face while he was lying in his cradle, leaving behind a drop of honey when they flew away. is father thought it was a good sign and indicated his son's future eloquence and "honeyed tongue". St. Ambrose is usually pictured with a beehive and is the patron saint of beekeepers, bees, and candlemakers.
